The Peninsula<\/a>, an assisted living and memory support community, is fortunate to have a long-standing relationship with the City of Pembroke Park and the Pembroke Park Fire Department to bring public safety education to residents, employees and the general public.<\/p>\n

On the third Friday of each month, Ann Zuker with the Fire Department comes to The Peninsula to speak on a variety of safety issues, and the public is invited to attend.<\/p>\n

This month, and especially fitting for the holidays, her topic is electrical safety and she will speak on Friday, December 19 at 2 p.m. If you would like to attend her lecture, please call 954.893.7755 to let us know.<\/p>\n

In addition to helpful tips about electrical safety during the holidays, she will also share home safety tips to prevent home fires due to electrical issues.<\/p>\n

U.S. fire departments responded to an estimated 50,000 reported home structure fires annually involving electrical failure or malfunction between 2007-2011. These have claimed almost 500 lives, injuring more than 1,400 people and causing more than $1.3 billion in property damage (National Fire Protection Association). Additionally,nearly 400 people are electrocuted each year.<\/p>\n
