""Peak hurricane season is just around the corner. From August to October, the majority of these storms hit the Atlantic Coast. It’s always best to prepare for these events ahead of time to minimize the amount you have to think about it should an emergency situation occur. Seniors can do a few things to get ready. Consider our four hurricane preparedness tips.

1. PACK A SAFETY KIT

Put together a medical supply and first aid kit with about two weeks’ worth of prescription medications and medical supplies. Insurance companies make exceptions to prescriptions to allow you to keep this kind of supply. Consider adding other essentials to this kit such as a flashlight, hand sanitizer, and over-the-counter drugs like ibuprofen and aspirin.

2. MAINTAIN A FOOD AND WATER SUPPLY

Just like your safety kit supplies, be sure that you have enough water and food stored away for two weeks. Allow for about one gallon of water per day, per person, in the household. Keep in mind that you or your loved one should check the expiration dates and replace them regularly. Stock up on a supply of non-perishable food, as well. Not sure what to pack away?
