Residents at The Peninsula, an assisted living and memory support community, enjoyed the last month of summer with many special activities in addition to the community’s full social calendar.
For their convenience, each month a variety of vendors visit the community bringing an assortment of accessories, clothing and spa products. This month, Couture Mobile Spa pampered residents with hand massages using their special hand lotions and demonstrated their other spa products that residents sampled.
Our live entertainment in The Peninsula’s Theater ran the gamut of variety shows. Singer “Marlene” with her soulful voice performed a variety of old and new songs. Felicia Lynne, who is a Patsy Cline impersonator, sang country classics. You needed to take a second look; she seemed so authentic sporting a head-to-toe cowgirl costume and belting out those Patsy Cline favorites.
A new entertainer was a headliner, Genie Lynn Crey. She wowed the crowd with Broadway show tunes that sparked many memories by residents who were avid theater goers.
Our residents were visited by “Slinky the Clown” doing his magic and balloon artistry. He’s especially popular in The Peninsula’s Garden for memory support residents and visits each month bringing smiles to everyone.
In addition to our monthly birthday party for residents celebrating their birthdays in August, we had an extra special birthday celebrating the 99th birthday of a resident. Family members brought a special cake and everyone enjoyed the festivities.
Evenings are busy at The Peninsula and residents are enjoying a change of pace after dinner. They’ve discovered the exciting board game, Pokeno which is similar to bingo and are practicing their skills. Evening movies are available every night. On Sundays and Mondays residents are taking advantage of viewing movies from their apartments on The Peninsula’s Channel 3 at 7 p.m. On Tuesdays through Saturdays, movies are shown in the Theater starting at 6:30 p.m.
As the month drew to a close and The Peninsula’s residents welcomed Labor Day and the start of fall, there was much to look forward to for the upcoming month of September.
